Bruce Crail MacLeod

Being a South African the outdoors has, and always will be, where I feel most at home. However, my love of the environment and conservation was cemented when I travelled round the world and worked for six months as a tree surgeon in Western Australia. This experience ignited my interest in developing sustainable wood products and gave me the opportunity to learn about different usages for naturally felled timber.

Having moved to Scotland to marry my life took an unexpected turn and I worked in the catering industry, owning my own businesses for 5 years employing 25 staff members. However, the opportunity arose to retrain and I return to my original passion: wood.

I undertook a two year diploma in Cabinet Making at The Metropolitan College, graduating in June 2008.  It was while I was studying there that I started to develop a hardwood timber recycling business in partnership with the Metropolitan College. Over the past year this has gone from strength to strength and the college have now invested in a kiln. I manage this for them in relation to sourcing; milling the timber and managing the student help which is provided. The Metropolitan College is now developing course work for students around our current on-going timber project.
